Property owners, renters, and representatives (commercial) may obtain burn permits. In the case of a renter (residential and commercial), the permit requires landlord approval. In the case of a business on it's owned property, this may be an owner, director, or person responsible for that location or business function who may obtain a permit. Permits may also be obtained to conduct burning on Municipal property at the discretion of the Chief Fire Official in which case the person responsible for the burn will be named on the permit. Permits are conditional and may be revoked at any time.
You may register online using this website to obtain residential recreational, residential non-recreational, and commercial burn permits with standard conditions. Other permit types or changes to conditions need to be processed through the fire department directly.
Only wood, wood by-products (cardboard, paper etc.) or leaves can be burned.
All open-air burning within the Municipality requires a permit. Failure to obtain a permit and adhere to the conditions can lead to a fire department response to address the issue and related costs being charged to the person or property owner at the location responsible for the burn.
Yes, all burning within the Municipality's boundaries are within it's authority. There may be coordination with other government agencies depending on the type, location, and scope of your proposed burn. Please contact us to discuss your specific plans and obtain the necessary approvals.
This will require approval from the Chief Fire Official. Standard conditions would typically apply as they would to a residential or commercial burn. Your plan will be reviewed to ensure safety of participants, any added safety measures required, and plans for clean-up of the burn site.
Please contact the fire department at the information listed to discuss your specific plans. This online system is meant to process the majority of permits with standard conditions which may not reflect your specific ideas or circumstances. We are able to manually process special permits at the discretion of the Chief Fire Official after a review of the safety and community impacts of your proposed burn has been conducted. These special permits are issued on a case-by-case basis.
